Fit to Scale
This Arts and Crafts home blends beautifully with its Golden Valley neighborhood
Inspired by the philosophies of Sarah Susanka, author of The Not-So-Big House (Taunton, 2001), DiGiacomo Homes & Renovation, Inc. transformed a beautiful, wooded lot in Golden Valley into one family’s dream home. “We wanted to maximize the footprint of the home, while focusing on making it fit to scale with the neighboring homes,” says builder Rocky DiGiacomo, president of DiGiacomo Homes & Renovation. The Arts and Crafts home is 3,800 square feet—2,800 of which are finished—and is a Minnesota GreenStar Pilot project. “Our goal is to value quality over quantity and bring homes back down to a human scale,” he says. With five bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, a kitchen-centered layout, and plenty of family-focused areas, this home emphasizes well-planned, efficient, open living space. —C.J.
