Historic Charm
The past inspires the present in this handcrafted Edina home
On the shore of Edina’s Highland Lake sits the newest creation by TC Homebuilders. Led by owner Tony Giannakakis, TC Homebuilders follows just one mantra: authenticity. “At this price range, people deserve real craftsmanship,” he says. “That means real wood beamed ceilings, and real wood crown molding … the kind of quality that you’d find in the homes of oil barons 100 years ago.” Giannakakis often visits Minneapolis’ historic homes, such as the American Swedish Institute, for ideas and inspiration.
He applied all of his philosophies in this 6,400-square-foot home that offers real-deal luxury, plus some unusual amenities: reclaimed teak flooring in the office, taken from a nineteenth-century spice trading ship; a Stanford White-inspired fireplace mantel with green glass accents that was carved right on site; and a movie theater with its own marquee and concession stand. The family that moves into this home will enjoy four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a three-car garage, and, above all, authenticity—in every window casing, hand-carved mantel, and newel post. —A.F.
