In Love with the Lake

This majestic Orono home melds craftsmanship with special details

Since it was founded six years ago, Highmark Builders has stayed true to its name by using only master carpenters for its handcrafted homes. For this 5,600-square-foot Lake Minnetonka stunner with panoramic water views, those carpenters—and builders Jim Moras and Terry Gaulrapp—really went to the edge.

Each room shows off careful detailing, from the whitewashed custom brackets that introduce the kitchen to the immaculate alder ceiling in the hearth room. “But it’s the special details that make the craftsmanship come alive,” says Gaulrapp. A bluestone outdoor shower, a mudroom complete with a recessed tile boot and pet wash, and an additional detached three-car garage with its own studio are just a few of these standouts. With five bedrooms and four full baths, there’s plenty of room to spread out—and enjoy the view. —A.F.
