We have some very savvy Minnesotans to thank for Cos Bar in Edina. After vacationing in Scottsdale, Vail, and a handful of other luxury resort destinations where the beauty boutique does business, they demanded (politely, natch) a store here at home. The 50th and France location represents Cos Bar’s first venture into the ’burbs, but the shop has been beautifying discerning disciples since 1976, when founder Lily Garfield moved to Aspen and couldn’t get her product fix. Today, Cos Bar boasts a selective lineup of beauty, body, and skincare brands in a chic and intimate setting. Some of the lines Cos Bar carries, like La Prairie, La Mer, and Frederic Fekkai, have a cult following. Others, like Cle de Peau, Kevyn Aucoin, and Kanebo, are rare finds. Despite its elite goods and locations, Cos Bar is anything but exclusive. The sales staff includes some of the Cities’ most experienced, sought-after skin-care specialists and makeup artists. And since they don’t represent one particular brand, they’ll help you find the perfect shade of lipstick (gloss is so 2007)—one that makes you feel like it’s always sunny in Minnesota.
