Sam McCloud has tried more than 200 felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor cases to jury verdict. At one point he won 12 DWI trials in a row in one jurisdiction alone. This determined attorney—listed in “The Best Lawyers in America”—has been involved in over 150 appeals, with some victories forever altering Minnesota state law. He’s responsible for the state’s decision to replace breathalyzers with intoxilyzers, and has one of the few directed verdicts of acquittal in a First Degree murder case. “My client was absolutely innocent,” he says. “The judge said it was the hardest decision he’s made in 30 years on the bench. My only reaction was, ‘Why is it so hard to pronounce innocence?’ This should have been the judge’s proudest moment.”

PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY: Gunfighters don’t charge by the bullet.

BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Successfully raising five children to adulthood (ages 18-37) and still working on the other five kids still at home (7-16).

FREE ADVICE: Ask to have an attorney present before answering an officer’s questions, and decline to do coordination sobriety tests unless the officer allows you to arrange an independent witness to watch you do them.
